Hand Vein Removal at The Vein Clinic of Dallas

The hands often reveal what the face does not.

Prominent hand veins are visible, often bulging veins on the back of
the hands that create an aged or hollow appearance. Unlike varicose
veins in the legs, they are almost always healthy and functioning
normally. Their prominence is a cosmetic consequence of the natural
aging process rather than a sign of vein disease.

As skin thins and subcutaneous fat diminishes with age, veins that were
previously cushioned beneath the surface become increasingly visible.
Genetics, sun exposure, low body weight, and frequent physical
activity can all accelerate this process.

At The Vein Clinic of Dallas, hand vein removal is performed
personally by Dr. Husein Poonawala , a Harvard-trained vascular and interventional radiologist with double board certification in venous and
lymphatic medicine. The same precision brought to complex vascular
medicine is applied to every cosmetic treatment.

At a Glance

Every patient receives a brief evaluation before any treatment to confirm the veins are purely cosmetic and that no underlying vascular concern requires attention first. In the vast majority of cases, patients proceed directly to treatment at the same visit.

The Treatment

Hand vein sclerotherapy: how it works.

Hand vein sclerotherapy involves injecting a specialized sclerosant
solution directly into the prominent veins using a fine needle. The
solution causes the vessel wall to collapse and seal. Over the following
weeks, the treated vein is absorbed naturally by the body and fades
from view, leaving the back of the hand with a smoother, less
prominent appearance. Blood flow is seamlessly rerouted through
deeper vessels with no disruption to circulation.

The procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes and is performed entirely in-
office. No anesthesia, no hospital visit, no surgical incision, and no
recovery period. A light compression glove may be recommended for
a short period afterward to support results. Most patients return to
normal activity the same day.

Treated veins initially feel firm as the vessel fills with organized coagulum. Over the following weeks and months, the closed vein gradually shrinks and is absorbed by the body. Most patients see meaningful reduction in prominence over two to four months, with the smoothest final result visible around six months.

Most patients achieve their best outcome with two to three sessions spaced several weeks apart.

Treated veins are permanently closed and will not return. New veins may develop over time with aging.

Mild bruising or tenderness is possible and resolves within a few days without restricting normal hand use.
