The Vein Clinic of Dallas

Vein Conditions We Treat

From painful varicose veins to restless legs at night and legs that feel heavy or tired at the end of the day, we diagnose and treat the full spectrum of vein disease.

Vein Disease Is It's Medical, Not Just Cosmetic

Vein disease is not just cosmetic. It is medical. Many of the symptoms people live with daily, including swelling, aching, throbbing discomfort, restless legs, and skin discoloration, are caused by underlying vein disease that can be accurately diagnosed and effectively treated.

At The Vein Clinic of Dallas, we diagnose and treat the full spectrum of venous conditions. Whether you are dealing with visible varicose veins, progressive skin damage, or leg fatigue without obvious veins, we take the time to evaluate what is happening beneath the surface using advanced diagnostic tools, not assumptions.

Our boutique, physician-led approach means your care is thorough, precise, and designed for long-term results. Every evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment is personally performed by Dr. Husein Poonawala , a Harvard-trained, board-certified vein specialist, using advanced ultrasound, vein light mapping, and thermal vascular imaging to identify the true source of your symptoms.

When to See a Vein Specialist

Consider an evaluation if you experience any of the following

Conditions We Treat

Each condition below has a dedicated page with detailed information on causes,
symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Select the condition that best describes your symptoms to learn more.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)

The root cause of most vein disease, including varicose veins, leg swelling, skin changes, restless legs, and nighttime cramping.

Varicose Veins

Bulging, twisted veins caused by
malfunctioning valves and elevated venous pressure, often accompanied by aching, heaviness, and swelling.

Spider Veins

Small, visible surface veins that form red, blue, or purple web-like patterns on the legs or face, sometimes indicating deeper venous insufficiency.

Leg Swelling

Persistent swelling in the lower legs or ankles, particularly by evening, often caused by poor venous circulation and fluid accumulation from elevated venous pressure.

Skin Changes and Venous Ulcers

Progressive skin discoloration, stasis dermatitis, and slow healing wounds caused by long-standing venous insufficiency and elevated venous pressure.

Leg Cramps (Charley Horses)

Painful, involuntary muscle cramps, particularly at night or during rest, that can be triggered by venous pressure buildup and poor circulation.

Restless Legs

An uncomfortable urge to move the legs, especially at night, often linked to elevated venous pressure irritating nerves in the lower legs.

May-Thurner Syndrome

Compression of the left iliac vein that restricts blood flow from the left leg, causing chronic left leg swelling and increasing the risk of deep vein thrombosis.

Lymphedema

Chronic swelling caused by lymphatic dysfunction, often developing alongside or as a result of long-standing venous insufficiency.

What Causes Vein Disease?

Vein disease develops when the tiny valves inside the leg veins stop working properly. Healthy vein valves open and close with each heartbeat to keep blood moving upward toward the heart. When these valves weaken or fail, blood flows backward and pools in the lower legs. Over time, the resulting pressure buildup causes varicose veins, swelling, skin changes, and symptoms like aching, throbbing, or heaviness.

Many patients are surprised to learn that symptoms like restless legs, leg cramps, or chronic leg fatigue can be signs of underlying venous insufficiency even when bulging veins are not visible. These symptoms often worsen throughout the day as venous pressure accumulates, and they frequently improve with leg elevation, which is itself a clinical indicator that vein disease may be involved.

How Vein Valves Fail

Valves Weaken

Vein valves that once kept blood moving upward begin to fail, allowing backflow

Blood Pools

Blood flows backward and pools in the lower legs, increasing venous pressure

Pressure Builds

Over time, elevated pressure causes veins to bulge, stretch, and weaken further

Symptoms Develop

Aching, swelling, heaviness, skin changes, and restless legs emerge as damage progresses
