What to Expect at The Vein Clinic of Dallas

What happens at every step

of your vein care.

What happens at every step of your care, and how to prepare for the visit ahead.

Scheduling and Access

Direct access. No

call centers.

You will not reach a call center when you contact The Vein Clinic of
Dallas. Our scheduling is handled directly within the practice, so you
speak with our team rather than being routed through layers of
staffing. We structure our appointment calendar deliberately to
minimize wait times, and most patients are seen promptly after initial
contact.

The clinic is modern, clean, and designed to feel welcoming from the moment you walk in. Our front desk team knows who you are and why you are here before you arrive. From check-in onward, you are in our care.

Before Your Visit

A little preparation

goes a long way.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your legs.
If you currently wear compression stockings, bring them. Fit and compression strength matter, and we want to make sure yours are actually working for you.

Bring a valid photo ID and your insurance card. If you have had prior
vein imaging, leg ultrasounds, or any relevant medical records, bring
those as well. Previous imaging can provide useful context before your
evaluation begins.

Your Vein Evaluation Visit

Unhurried. Physician-directed.

Built around your questions.

History and symptoms review

Your initial visit begins with a one-on-one meeting with Dr. Poonawala to review your history, symptoms, and any prior imaging or records you have brought.

Brief focused ultrasound

Dr. Poonawala then performs a brief focused ultrasound himself, typically around five minutes, to get an immediate read on your venous circulation before any formal study begins. He also recognizes findings that fall outside vein disease. When that happens, he explains what he has found and guides you toward the right next step.

Formal vein mapping study (45 to 60 minutes)

A comprehensive duplex ultrasound of the venous system. This may be completed the same day or scheduled shortly after, depending on your case. See our Vein Evaluation page for full detail on what this involves.

Results consultation

Dr. Poonawala reviews the findings with you directly. He covers what the imaging confirmed and, where treatment is appropriate, what a personalized plan looks like. You are not handed a referral and sent to figure it out elsewhere. You get answers.

What makes this visit different

If Vein Treatment Is Recommended

Your personalized plan,

explained in full.

When treatment is appropriate, Dr. Poonawala explains your
personalized plan in full before anything is scheduled. Your care may
involve a single procedure or a series of sessions over several weeks.
Multiple treatment visits are sometimes necessary to address all
affected veins thoroughly and achieve lasting results.

Depending on your diagnosis, your plan may include one or more of
the following:

Compression therapy and lifestyle support as an initial or adjunct measure

Minimally invasive procedures (radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, Varithena, or sclerotherapy, as appropriate for your anatomy)

Follow-up ultrasounds at defined intervals to confirm results and guide next steps

Insurance documentation, prior authorization, and all medical necessity paperwork are handled by our team. For full details, visit our Insurance Coverage page

Your Vein Treatment Day

In-office. Physician- performed.

No handoffs.

All procedures at The Vein Clinic of Dallas are performed in-office by
Dr. Poonawala personally. There is no hospital visit, no surgical center
transfer, and no handoff to another provider at any point.

Treatment sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes depending on the
procedure. Patient comfort is a deliberate part of how procedures are
conducted here. We use customized anesthetic combinations, check
in with you continuously throughout, and will stop to administer more
anesthesia whenever needed. Most patients are surprised by how
tolerable the experience is.

In-Office Procedures. No recovery room. No overnight stay.

After your treatment: Compression stockings are typically worn for a
period following treatment to support circulation and promote healing.
Walking is encouraged immediately and throughout your recovery.
Monitor for any unusual changes such as significant swelling, warmth,
or redness in the treated area, and contact us directly if they occur.

Follow-Up Care and Long-Term Vein Health

Defined checkpoints. Objective confirmation.

Long-term engagement.

Post-Treatment Evaluation

Ultrasound confirms treated veins have fully ablated and assesses recovery and symptom improvement. Identifies any veins that may not have completely occluded and determines whether touch-up treatment is needed.

Progress Review

Assesses ongoing symptom improvement and overall trajectory of recovery. Any post-procedure concerns are addressed at this visit.

Ongoing Surveillance

Yearly evaluations monitor the full venous system for new or developing insufficiency. Early changes addressed before symptoms return.
